Tropical Motor Sports is owned and
operated by David Tarrats, Sr. and his
family. David proudly calls himself a "New
Yorican". You see, David was born and grew
up in the Bronx of New York, spent his
adolescent years in Puerto Rico and has lived in
Virginia since 1997. He and his family are proud
Americans that cherish their Latin background
and that is evident in David's participation in
Radio Tropical, a local Latin radio
station and program.
David began selling cars back in 1977 in New York. He has
experience selling in a new car setting for
Chrysler but most of his time has been spent
selling used vehicles. He and his family moved
to Puerto Rico in 1981 and it was not long
before David opened up his own dealership there.
They thrived in the industry and enjoyed the
island for sixteen years before they relocated
to Virginia in 1997. Angela Rivera has been by
David's side all these years and together they
have raised four kids and are currently spoiling
fourteen grand kids. When they arrived in
Virginia David served as General Manager at
Norfolk Auto Brokers where his son, Jeffrey,
still works. David Jr. and Natalie, currently
work with David and Angela at Tropical Motor
Sports. Even David's dad, Luis, spends time at
the dealership and as you can see this is truly
a family run operation.
Edwin Tarrats is in charge lot responsibilities
and gets all vehicles serviced and safety
inspected. Angela Rivera not only keeps the boys
in line but also runs a tight ship as the Office
Manager. She is the reason everything runs so
smoothly! This family run business has a few
'adopted' team members. Clarence Lawson is a
Virginia Beach native that has been selling
pre-owned autos in the area for several years.
He joined the Tropical Motor Sports early in
2005 and serves as the General Manager. His no
pressure approach is appreciated by all but his
tenacity to help you get what you want with a
financing package that fits your budget is what
makes him a valuable member. James Owen is our
Sales Manager and has an extensive background in
the automotive industry. The team is well
rounded with Brandon Sampson & Kevin Campfield
serving as Assistant Sales Managers and Carlos
Tarrats as Sales Associate. When you visit this
